The Oxford Archaeological Unit (OAU) was commissioned by Union Railways (South) (URS) to undertake detailed excavations at Church Lane and East of Station Road, Smeeth, Kent (Figures 1-4). The two sites lie between URL grid points 87600 18300 and 88200 18600 (OS NGR TR 07596 38301 to 08196 38601). This work formed part of an extensive programme of archaeological investigation carried out in advance of theconstruction of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL).
