In this study, we determines the gut microbiota of free-living and aquacultured Penaeus monodon shrimp, using a next generation sequencing approach supported by qPCR profiling for potential pathogens and common shrimp viral diseases. P. monodon was used regarding to its high economic value as one of the most valuable traded aquaculture organisms. This research represents the first approch with the Illumina MiSeq platform of a comparative gut microbiota analysis for P. monodon.
