We undertook transcriptomic analysis of lesional and non-lesional skin of two patients with blaschkolinear psoriasis and identified 763 genes with significant log differences in average expression levels. Subsequent pathway and gene ontology analyses highlighted cornification, epidermis development, keratinization and skin development, as well as immune pathways. By comparing the transcriptomic profiles of blaschkolinear psoriasis with psoriasis vulgaris, we showed that the blaschkolinear psoriasis transcriptome is relatively similar to psoriasis vulgaris and identified unique transcriptomic signatures that underlie blaschkolinear psoriasis. Construction of a STRING network for the identified differentially expressed genes, followed by functional enrichment analysis on its clusters, highlighted pathways involved in keratinization and cornification processes, hair cycle and hair morphogenesis, inflammatory responses and metabolic processes. In summary, we present the first study to investigate the blaschkolinear psoriasis transcriptome and assess whether blaschkolinear psoriasis is a distinct clinical entity of psoriasis.
