VPRS 19258 Honorary / Senior Medical Staff Office, Records of the Secretary

This series comprises records of the secretary of the Senior Medical Staff Office of the Royal Melbourne Hospital (VA 1048). The Senior Medical Staff consists of those specialist medical staff with a senior appointment as Head of Unit. Historically these appointments were honorary until the 1970s, and were often called Medical Officers in Charge of Departments, or In-Patient Physicians and In-Patient Surgeons. These files were collated by Beryl Hamilton, Secretary to the Senior Medical Staff office. They include correspondence, reports and papers from 1886-1932 and from 1960-74 and include Medical Staff By-Laws and the Medical Staff Standing Orders for 1978. Prior to transfer to Public Record Office Victoria, the records in this series were maintained as part of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Archives.
