Despite increasing evidence associating changes in the microbiota and radiation-induced tissue damage, the exact pathogenic mechanisms linking them are still unclear. The pathogenesis of radiation-induced mucosal damage may involve interaction between radiation effects on both host and microbial factors; therefore, this study aims to investigate the dynamics of the intestinal microbial composition at different stages of post-radiation disease and its interplay with host immune system.
