POC and PON stock data from Weddell Sea Ice floes collected in February 2024 during PICCOLO research cruise SD035.

Particulate organic carbon (POC) and particulate organic nitrogen (PON) stock observations from underneath two ice floes, and adjacent to these ice floes in the Weddell Sea. Samples were taken from 26-27/2/2024 using various methods. Sampling underneath ice was completed by drilling holes through the ice floes and sampling water at specific depths using Niskin bottles. Samples from the sea-ice interface were also specifically targeted using a camera (to locate the interface) and a pump. Samples in the open water (adjacent to the ice floes) were taken using a shipboard CTD and Niskin rosette. Samples were analysed onshore by scientists at the British Antarctic Survey using elemental analysis. These data will provide a useful reference for POC and PON stock data in an environment which is difficult to monitor, and very difficult to observe remotely.
