Bio-physicochemical data of soil samples from dumpsites in a Nigerian Sunshine State

Non-existent landfill practices have made dumpsites in Nigerian states major anthropogenic sources. Accumulation of these pollutants in soil (an essential component of the environment) will lead to environmental degradation. This article provides a dataset that can be used to show the effect dumpsite location has on the bio-physiochemical properties of the soil. Four dumpsite locations, namely Igbatoro, Iju-Itaogbolu, Ijare, and the Federal University of Technology Akure, were considered in this study. Soil samples were taken at each dumpsite location from the topsoil (0-10 cm), 10-20 cm and 20-30 cm. A control sample (to determine the migration effect of pollutants from the dumpsite) was obtained at a distance 20 m away from the dumpsites. Microbial analysis and physicochemical tests were performed on the soil sample. The dataset shows the distribution of the tested properties in the dumpsite locations. The data will serve as a reference for future estimation of the dumpsite pollution index and risk assessment for possible dumpsite(s) rehabilitation into landfill(s) or perhaps closure.
