Leveraging the superior C-H bond activation capability of Co-based catalysts and the electronic modulation effect of Zn promoters, a series of xCoyZn/S-1 bimetallic catalysts with varying Co/Zn molar ratios were synthesized via the incipient wetness co-impregnation method. By combining multiple characterization techniques (including XRD, XPS, and H2-TPR) with catalytic performance evaluations under propane dehydrogenation (PDH) conditions, structural and functional regulation of Co active sites by Zn. The results demonstrate that the introduction of Zn significantly enhances the stability of tetracoordinated Co2+ species by inhibiting their reduction. Consequently, the 1.5Co0.5Zn/S-1 catalyst exhibits optimal PDH activity (highest C3H6 formation rate) and cycling stability at 550 °C, maintaining stable performance without discernible deactivation after three consecutive reaction-regeneration cycles. This study confirms that tetracoordinated Co2+ serves as the key active site for the PDH reaction, thereby providing a theoretical basis and technical reference for the design of low-cost and high-stability PDH catalysts.
