This project aims to investigate the structural transformations that occur during the oxidation of Ti(III) metal centres in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), leading to their amorphous but functional Ti(IV) counterparts. Using in situ time-resolved total scattering, we will monitor the real-time evolution of these materials to gain critical insights into the transformation mechanism. This approach will reveal details of the local structure in the final amorphous TiIV MOFs that are otherwise inaccessible through traditional ex situ characterization techniques, hence enabling a deeper understanding of their structure-property relationships.
