Carbonic anhydrase (CA) is a zinc-containing metalloenzyme widely existing in plants. Its core function is to catalyze the reversible interconversion between CO2 and . This paper reviewed the important research results of the roles of plant CA in photosynthesis, growth and development, and stress response. It also summarized the regulatory networks of governing CA gene expression, and proposed the future research directions. These efforts aim to lay a theoretical foundation for analyzing the function and regulatory network of CA regulatory networks in plants, and to provide a theoretical reference for enhancing crop yield and improving stress tolerance through genetic engineering.
