Site Photographs and GIS Data from an Archaeological Evaluation of Land at Lower Somercotes, Alfreton, Derbyshire, 2022

This collection comprise the site photographs and GIS data from an archaeological evaluation of Land at Lower Somercotes, Alfreton, Derbyshire, carried out by Cotswold Archaeology in December 2022. Fourteen trenches were excavated across 5.1 hectares. Evidence of post-medieval agricultural cultivation in the form of ridge and furrow previously depicted on the geophysical survey was recorded in Trenches 1 and 2. A ditch, corresponding with one of the medieval field boundaries recorded within the site cartographic sources, was recorded in Trench 3. Post-medieval mining pits were recorded in Trenches 2, 4-11 and a modern building foundation was recorded in Trench 14. Features identified show evidence of historic industrial activity within the site.
