Members of the phylum Acidobacteria are ubiquitous in both terrestrial and oceanic environments. Thermotomaculum hydrothermale AC55 is the thermophilic bacterium isolated from a deep-sea hydrothermal field, representing Acidobacteria subdivision 10. The strain was an obligatory anaerobic heterotroph capable of fermentative growth on complex proteinaceous substances. To understand fully the metabolic potential and phylogenetic place of strain AC55, we performed whole genome analysis.
