Sugar metabolism mediates temperature-dependent flowering induction in saffron (Crocus sativus L.)

Saffron is one of the most expensive spice obtained from the stigma of Crocus sativus. Temperature is known to be an important regulator for optimal growth and flowering in saffron, but the molecular regulators controlling temperature-mediated flower induction are still unknown. Therefore, in this study RNA sequencing was carried out in saffron apical buds from corms incubated at 25 degree C (Flowering) and 8 degree C (Non-Flowering) to identify molecular regulators involved in temperature-mediated flowering.
