Data used in the paper "Quantifying shell patterning helps identify species of Trionychidae". Includes information on the museum specimens used in the study, metadata on the scans of the specimens, data on the origin locations of the artificial (clipped out) "fragments", and values of three dental topographic metrics for each scan.
Columns are as follows:
Index of rows
Files: Full file name of each scan as it appears in the directory
Species: Turtle species identify of the scan (Amyda cartilaginea, Apalone ferox, Apalone spinifera)
CostalCarapaceLength: Straight line carapace length
TotalSLCarapaceLength: Straight line midline distance from the first neural to the posterior end of the carapace
SpecimenName: Catalog number of the specimen as determined by the Florida Museum of Natural History, Museum of Florida
AnteriorDistance: Straight line distance along the CostalCarapaceLength midline that ends at the perpendicular line that intersects the center of the artificial shell fragment
LateralDistance: Straight line distance from the midline to the center of the artificial shell fragment
Side: Side of the body the fragment originated from (left or right)
Costal: Costal the fragment originated from (1-6, from anterior to posterior)
Excluded: True/False, if the scan was excluded due to artifacts
Notes: Additional comments on why the scan was excluded or left in the dataset
DNE: Dirichlet Normal Energy as computed by the molaR package
RFI: Relief Index as computed by the molaR package
OPCR: Orientation Patch Count as computed by the molaR package
Slope: Slope as computed by the molaR package (not used in analyses)
alpha: Value used in RFI calculation. Set based on initial tests
Modified.in.v2: True/False, if the scan was manually modified to remove scanning artifacts (such as disconnected polygons) for use in topographic analyses
DNE.std: DNE value after square root normalization and standardization
RFI.std: RFI value after square root normalization and standardization
OPCR.std: OPCR value after standardization (normalization not needed)
