Seven ceramic sherds from an isolated pot drop in the Guadalupe Mountains, Eddy
County, New Mexico, were submitted for organic residue analysis. The sherds were tested as a
group, rather than individually, for organic residues using Fourier Transform Infrared
Spectroscopy (FTIR). FTIR analysis will be used to provide information on the materials stored
in the vessel, and to infer its possible use and function. It is hoped these analyses will shed
light on the prehistoric use of ceramics in southeastern New Mexico.
