This research aims to systematically develop, implement, and evaluate a generative AI-based training tool for cultivating virtual teamwork competency in engineering education. The study comprises three sequential phases with distinct methodological and participant focuses. In Study 1, qualitative data were collected through focus group interviews with engineering students and a Delphi panel of 20 experts (10 educators and 10 industry professionals) to develop and validate a behavior-oriented competency framework. Study 2 employed a human-centered design process involving semi-structured interviews and co-design sessions with engineering instructors and students to develop a generative AI-based training tool. Study 3 evaluated the tool's pedagogical effectiveness through interaction analysis from 41 students and reflection reports from 72 student participants who engaged with the AI-supported training scenarios.
