Note included with tape reads: "Contains interviews about and footage of set running, including very early film footage from traditional dancers in North Carolina. In Section 1, John Ramsay of Berea College shares his insights into the importance of the dance. Intended for the use of those interested in promoting this American heritage dance among school administrators, dance historians, civic clubs, legislators, and the ordinary American folk to whom the heritage belongs. Section 2. A description of how to do the dance, including many of the most popular figures. A group of Berea College students, townspeople and teenagers demonstrate how to do figures described in a companion booklet, Kentucky Mountain Square Dancing by Patrick E. Napier. Each figure is walked through and then danced in a set with live music and calls. Designed for use in the classroom, or for review by an instructor/caller." Tape only includes Section 1.
