Work Without Injury, 1994-1997

The project 'Job uden skader' (Work Without Injury) was initiated by the County of Vejle. The main purposes of the project are: #1. To reduce the number of occupational injuries in the County of # Vejle in selected high risk areas. #2. In collaboration between the employers' and the employees' # organizations and educational institutions to co-ordinate a # concerted effort to develop lasting changes in attitude towards # a healthy working environment. #The survey is part of an overall strategy to reduce the number of occupational injuries and it was carried out as an intervention study among the 7th to 9th grade pupils and their teachers in the public schools in the County of Vejle. The study is based on the following: #A. Preparation of material and introduction to teachers. #B. School courses consisting of lessons in class, workshops and follow-up. #C. Maintenance of achieved knowledge and change of attitude. #An evaluation strategy has been devised comprising the following elements: 1i. Pupil evaluation. 1ii. Teacher evaluation. 1iii. Guest teacher evaluation. 1iv. Follow-up 10 months later. # #59 public schools in the County of Vejle were registered for the survey. 6 schools did not particiapte for various reasons. In the remaining 53 schools 65 courses were held with a guest teacher and 5 courses without a guest teacher, a total of 70 courses. 6 courses with a guest teacher are not included owing to lack of information on the school. The basis material consists of evaluation forms from teachers, guest teachers and pupils. # An evaluation of the intervention was carried out 10 months later. 8 out of the 53 participating schools were randomly selected for the follow-up. The selection was made so that both urban and rural areas were represented. For each of the 8 schools a neighbouring non-participant school was selected as control. 7 of 8 schools in the intervention group and 6 of 8 schools in the control group participated
