When Screens Overwhelm: How Religiosity Anchors Student Identity and Social Development.AbstractThis study examined relationships between Digital Distress (DD), Social Development (SD), Identity Formation (IF), and Religiosity (RE) among Religious Studies students at the University of Cape Coast (UCC). A cross-sectional survey of 120 students revealed that DD significantly weakens IF but not SD. RE was the strongest positive predictor for both IF and SD, yet it did not moderate DD's effects, indicating independent pathways. The findings underscore RE's role as a key resource within Ghana’s religious context. Consequently, we recommend that universities implement targeted digital wellness programs to support identity processes and actively leverage faith-based support structures to foster holistic student development and resilience.
