Ten clinical isolates of drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis from Lima, Peru were sequenced. Initially, these sputum samples were not culturable on regular Lowenstein-Jensen (LJ) medium, but could be cultured on medium supplemented with glycerol and fatty acids. The purpose of the study was to identify genetic mutations that explain the distinct growth phenotype.
