Abstract: To understand how olivine microstructures evolve with increasing strain during upper mantle deformation, we analyzed a suite of natural peridotite shear zone samples using electron backscatter diffraction. For each sample, we produced a map of mineral orientations, recorded in a Channel Text File (.ctf). Each row of data represents one pixel of the map. Indexed phases typically include olivine, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, chromite, and tremolite.
