Imaging of acute kidney injury (AKI) model kidneys in mice and port-wine stain (PWS) cockscomb in chickens using SR-CTSynchrotron Radiation Micro-Computed Tomography data were acquired in absorption mode at the 4W1A beamline of the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF). The X-ray beam was monochromatized to approximately 12 keV using a Si(111) double-crystal monochromator, achieving around 30% transmission through the vessel samples. X-ray projection images were captured using a high-resolution 2048 × 2048 pixels CMOS camera (Hamamatsu ORCA-Flash4.0), providing a pixel resolution of 4.5 μm. For imaging blood vessels in Acute kidney injury samples, a 2× objective lens was utilized to ensure the entire kidney structure was encompassed within the field of view of 5 mm × 2.5 mm. Conversely, chicken comb port-wine stain samples were examined with a 4× objective lens to facilitate detailed observation of the subcutaneous diseased vessel networks within the field of view of 10 mm × 5 mm. The samples, approximately 5 mm in width and 6 mm in height, were mounted on a plain kinematic base. During each scan, the sample was rotated 180° around its axis in 0.25° increments, with each projection image having an exposure time of 10 seconds, resulting in the collection of 721 projection images. Additionally, white field images (acquired without the sample) and dark field images (acquired without X-ray illumination) were simultaneously obtained to correct for electronic noise during each scan.
