Woodlot Maple Leaf Species

The selected group of 4 partners were Kristine Georgilopoulos-Gulli, Yu Xiao, Naz Naji and Winnie Zhao along with the class headed out the woodlot and grasslands by Chimneystack Rd. on the York University Campus. We further broke down the assignment to 2 people per group and the people who were responsible for this data set were Kristine Georgilopoulos-Gulli (to be referred to as Lab partner 1) and Winnie Zhao (to be referred to as Lab partner 2). The tempurature was approximately 24 degree celcius and the woodlot was generally dry. During this time we randomly selected adult Maple Leaf tree species and recorded the DBH (diameter of breast height) of the tree as well as its canopy cover. In addition to this we measured the distance in metres to the closest sapling and measured the DBH (diameter of breast height) of the sapling as well. This was repeated on 10 occasions during the 2 hours that we were in the woodlot. Based on the data collected it appears that saplings are located >5 metres away from the adult tree.
