Jostedalsbreen ice-surface topography 1966

- Data description -This dataset contains a digital terrain model (DTM) representing the surface topography of Jostedalsbreen ice cap, Norway, for the year 1966. The DTM was generated to support glacier change analyses presented in the associated publication in The Cryosphere (Åkesson et al., 2025). The 1966 DTM presented here is based on three different DTM sources which were combined to optimise spatial coverage. A DTM generated by the company Terratec and used in Andreasen et al. (2023) was the principle source which was generated through photogrammetric processing of historical aerial photographs. In order to expand the spatial coverage, this DTM was combined with a second DTM produced by the company Hexagon (Gulbrandsen, 2022) for the purpose of orthorectifying image mosaics for the “Norge i Bilder” portal from the same photographs, however with a larger spatial coverage and lower resolution. Both DTMs however had data voids over parts of the glacier accumulation zone, most likely to poor image contrast.
