CDChasupdateditsinterimguidelinesforU.S.healthcareproviderscaringforinfantsborntomotherswhotraveledtoorresidedinareaswithZikavirustransmissionduringpregnancyandexpandedguidelinestoincludeinfantsandchildrenwithpossibleacuteZikavirusdisease(1).ThisupdatecontainsanewrecommendationforroutinecareforinfantsborntomotherswhotraveledtoorresidedinareaswithZikavirustransmissionduringpregnancybutdidnotreceiveZikavirustesting,whentheinfanthasanormalheadcircumference,normalprenatalandpostnatalultrasounds(ifperformed),andnormalphysicalexamination.AcuteZikavirusdiseaseshouldbesuspectedinaninfantorchildaged<18yearswho1)traveledtoorresidedinanaffectedareawithinthepast2weeksand2)has≥2ofthefollowingmanifestations:fever,rash,conjunctivitis,orarthralgia.Becausematernal-infanttransmissionofZikavirusduringdeliveryispossible,acuteZikavirusdiseaseshouldalsobesuspectedinaninfantduringthefirst2weeksoflife1)whosemothertraveledtoorresidedinanaffectedareawithin2weeksofdeliveryand2)whohas≥2ofthefollowingmanifestations:fever,rash,conjunctivitis,orarthralgia.EvidencesuggeststhatZikavirusillnessinchildrenisusuallymild(2).Asanarboviraldisease,Zikavirusdiseaseisnationallynotifiable.HealthcareprovidersshouldreportsuspectedcasesofZikavirusdiseasetotheirlocal,state,orterritorialhealthdepartmentstoarrangetestingandsothatactioncanbetakentoreducetheriskforlocalZikavirustransmission.Asnewinformationbecomesavailable,theseguidelineswillbeupdated:http://www.cdc.gov/zika/.
