SAL003 - Butlih Salawati - Basic vocabulary (Speaker: Yunus Klasin)

This dataset contains elicited basic vocabulary from the Butlih dialect of Salawati with Yunus Klasin (born 1975), a native speaker of Butlih Salawati. All words were recorded in isolation, utterance-final, and utterance-medial context; they cover the semantic domains of landscape, plants, animals, humans, verbs, numerals, qualities, and cultural items. The primary purpose of this recording was for use in systematic phonetic investigations on the realisation of the intrinsic fundamental frequency of vowels in Butlih Salawati. The session was recorded on 30 November 2019, in Kalobo village (Salawati island, Raja Ampat regency, Southwest Papua province, Indonesia). The dataset includes several photos that were taken after the session; and a short video recording of a part of the session. These photos and videos were taken by Daendelsh Gaman. This dataset relates to the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship 'Synchronic and diachronic investigations in Raja Ampat-South Halmahera, a little-known subbranch of Austronesian' (PF19\100004); additional fieldwork funds were provided by a Moray Endowment Fund from the University of Edinburgh.
