<b>Study description</b>Genetic studies have shed light on essential hypertension (EH), defined as high blood pressure (≥140/90 mmHg), but gaps in understanding its heritability remain. Epigenetic research offers a promising avenue to bridge these gaps. This study focused on African Brazilian populations from the Vale do Ribeira River region, known for a high prevalence of hypertension. We investigated whether DNA methylation is associated with hypertension susceptibility through a genome-wide analysis of 80 peripheral blood samples, including normotensive (39) and hypertensive (41) individuals, using the Infinium Methylation EPIC BeadChip platform.<b>Dataset description</b>This dataset contains genome-wide DNA methylation data generated from 80 samples (human; Homo sapiens), including normotensive (39) and hypertensive (41) individuals, originating from peripheral blood.Blood samples were processed for DNA extraction using standard salt-extraction protocols or automated systems, including the Autopure LS (Gentra Systems) and the QIAsymphony DNA Midi Kit (96) (Qiagen, Venlo Limburg, Netherlands). The extracted DNA was then treated with sodium bisulfite using the EZ DNA Methylation Kit (Zymo Research, Freiburg, Germany) to prepare it for downstream methylation analysis. Hybridization was carried out using the Infinium MethylationEPIC v1 BeadChip Kit (Illumina®, San Diego, California, USA). The processed samples were then scanned with the HiScanSQ system. This metadata record contains information about the raw idat files generated from the Infinium DNA methylation arrays. The raw idat files along with an annotation file will be made available upon request.<b>Terms for access</b>The DNA methylation dataset is only to be used for research that is seeking to advance the understanding of the influence of epigenetic factors on Essential Hypertension etiology and biology.The data should not be used for other purposes, i.e. investigating the epigenetic signatures that may lead to identification of a person.<br>
