资源简介:
I embed a field experiment within the UK-wide recruitment program for social workers to analyze barriers hindering men's entry into traditionally female-dominated sectors. The experimental design exogenously varies the content of recruitment messages in two ways: by showing photographs of a current worker (randomized to be male or female) and by providing information on the share of workers who received high-performance evaluations in a past year (randomized to be higher or lower). I find that including a male photograph has no impact on men's likelihood of applying. In contrast, presenting information about a lower share of high evaluations encourages men to apply and enables the employer to hire and retain more talented men. The impact of the informational intervention remains positive for the employer when also accounting for its effects on female applicants and hires.
