Alfalfa Transcription Sequencing

In China, we discovered the male sterile alfalfa for the first time, and we also obtained a genetically stable alfalfa male sterile line through backcrossing, and we named it MS-4. In our previous research, we found that the pollen abortion of MS-4 mainly occurred during the mononuclear pollen formation period (flower bud length was 2~3mm), which was manifested through the premature disintegration of the tapetum and the shriveled and distorted mature pollen grains. Thus there is an urgent need to conduct in-depth research to elucidate the mechanism of male sterility in MS-4 line. RNA-seq technology to analyze the transcriptome profiles of the male sterile line (MS-4) and the male fertile (MF) maintenance line of alfalfa. Results from this study contribute to elucidate the mechanism of male sterility in alfalfa.
