Widespread Depositional Fluvial Systems in Noachis Terra, Mars - shapefile of FSR distribution and measurements

This shapefile created in ArcGIS Pro v3.5.1 contains locations and measurments of Fluvial Sinuous Ridges (FSRs, also known as inverted channels). These are formed of sediment deposited by ancient rivers on both Earth and Mars. These deposits then harden relative to their surroudings and erode more slowly than the land around them. These deposits (which were once once at the bottom of river channels) eventually appear as upstanding ridges, tens of metres above the surrounding landscape. Losekoot, Balme, Coe, Fawdon, and Davis mapped these features in Noachis Terra, in Mars' southern highlands. They found more than 15,000 km in length of these ridges. These indicate widespread and sustained fluvial processes in the region, early in Mars' history. This is noteworthy as it is the first widespread evidence for fluvial processes in this region, which was previously believed to have been cold and dry
