Pyrophyllite - Natural Material for Sorption of Potentially Toxic Metals and Microorganisms from Abandoned Mine Drainages

Acidic (pH: 5.7) and alkaline (pH: 8.1) abandoned mine drainage (AMD) samples from the terminated Hg (SS) and Pb-Zn (CB) mines in Serbia were used to investigate the capacity of natural clay mineral pyrophyllite for the removal of potentially toxic metals and microorganisms from natural mine waters. Diversity of heterotrophic bacteria and fungi cultivated from AMD sample and their polyurethane-degrading potential were also assessed.
