The references relate to the bibliography section of this paper. Age information is given as median and range, or as mean and standard devation (SD), depending on which form was reported in the referenced study. Detection limits are given in ng/ml. Intra- and inter-assay coefficients of variation (CV) are percentages. NS denotes not stated. For longitudinal studies – [19], [29], [40], [48] – we report the average age of participants at first measurement. The censored total excludes any values greater than 54.3 years (i.e. one standard deviation above the average age at menopause).
