Grammy-awarded music artists Instagram dataset for engagement research

This dataset was developed to study user engagement with Grammy-awarded musical artists on Instagram. The data was compiled utilizing information drawn from both the official Grammy Awards website and the Instagram platform. The sample consists of 309 musical artists who were awarded a Grammy between 2020 and 2024 and maintained an active Instagram account. The dataset contains their posts published over a one-year period, from February 6, 2023, to February 4, 2024, aligning with the 65th and 66th Annual Grammy Awards cycles, respectively. The final dataset includes a total of 34,811 unique posts. The variables in the dataset are described as follows: post_time: time when the post was published following the format yyyy-mm-dd_HH-mm-ss_UTC; user: Grammy-award music artist generic username (user001, user002... up to user309); gender: coded gender identity of the artist or group, where F means female artist or all-female group; M means male artist or all-male group; and MIXED means group with artists of different gender identities; followers: the number of Instagram followers at the time of post download; awards: the number of Grammy awards obtained by the artist between 2020 and 2024; day_difference: the number of days between the post's publication and data extraction; video: a binary indicator for video posts; likes: the number of likes in the Instagram post at the time of download; comments: the number of comments in the Instagram post at the time of download; carousel: a binary indicator for carousel posts; post_images: the number of images included in a carousel post; length_caption: the number of characters in the caption; number_hashtags: the number of hashtags included in the caption; publication_weekday: weekday of the publication day; IM_performance: coded impression management category of the post image (the first one in the case of a carousel post or the snippet in the case of a video post), where there are three categories: Frontstage, for images showing music artists performing as a singer or musician; Backstage, for images featuring music artists in private or non-musical settings, such as homes, outdoor scenes, streets, or restaurants; and Offstage, for images not focused on the music artist. The file is csv formatted, and the columns are separatad by semicolon.
