The objective of this study is to characterize the structural and molecular changes in the colon mucosa of calves during the weaning transition. Six Holstein bull calves were weaned at week 6 of age. Colon mucosa thickness, fecal DM, fecal starch, and blood inflammatory markers were determined from week 4 to week 12, and transcriptome profiles of biopsied colon mucosa was obtained at week 5, week 7, and week 12 using RNA-sequencing.
