Study on the evolution law and mechanism of compacted loess cracks under humidity

In this study, the compacted loess with dry density of 1.6 was carried out by means of artificial climate box. The crack development test under different humidity was carried out to reproduce the basic process of crack initiation, expansion and penetration of compacted loess under climate change. The digital photography technology was used to collect the crack image. Combined with image processing technology, the crack evolution law of compacted loess was quantitatively analyzed and described, and the crack rate, total crack length, average crack width and fractal dimension of cracks were obtained. From the microscopic point of view, the porosity and pore fractal dimension were obtained by electron microscope scanning test, and the fracture development mechanism was explored by grey correlation theory.
