The response of the fungal community in deep groundwater in Finland to methane and methanol with or without sulphate was studied using amplicon sequencing of the ITS1 region and ITS1 transcripts. It was shown that the fungal community inhabitin the deep groundwater is sparce, but active. In addition, significant activation of the transcription of rRNA genes and ITS regions was observed when C1 substrated were added.
