Single cell transcriptome analysis identified a unique neutrophil type associated with Alzheimer's Disease

Neutrophils play essential role in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology, however the extent of heterogeneity remains a poorly explored question in light of developing novel therapies targeting this cells. Here, we investigate the population structure of neutrophils purified from AD mice peripheral blood samples. Using single cell RNA sequencing, we comprehensively map neutrophil populations and find some subsets are specially enriched in AD mice. We describe a special cluster closely associated with AD disease and identify marker. Flow cytometry and immunohistochemical staining of mice brain slices confirmed the subcluster. The unique neutrophil-type has the potential to promote AD development, which may have important implications for future diagnosis and treatment.
