Asof29February2016,thespreadoftheZikavirusepidemicintheAmericasandCaribbeaniscontinuing.Inthelightofthecurrentdiseasetrendandtheassociationwithseverecomplications(suchasadversepregnancyoutcomesorneurologicalcomplications),ECDCisproposinganalgorithmforpublichealthmanagementofcasesunderinvestigationforZikavirusinfectionandanoutlineofthestrategyforthelaboratoriesperformingZikavirusinfectiondiagnostictests.ThisdocumentaimstopresentanalgorithmfordecidingwhomtotestandprovideguidanceonthelaboratorytestsforZikavirusinfectiondiagnosisinordertosupportclinicaldiagnosticandcasereportingthroughsurveillanceamongEUMemberStates.Theinformationisprovisionalandsubjecttorevisionwhennewinformationbecomesavailable.
