This proposal aims to address two key challenges in the hierarchical self-assembly of block copolymer single crystals (BCSCs) during their formation and within the liquid crystalline phase. Firstly, we use USAXS to elucidate the interplay between micelle formation and crystallization-driven self-assembly of PS-PLLA in p-xylene solutions. Secondly, we investigate the structural evolution of plate-like BCSC particles in solutions above a critical concentration, where they exhibit an isotropic-nematic (I-N) transition. Previous SAXS measurements revealed an enhancement of face-to-face correlation upon heating, while polarized microscopy observations suggested partial melting and the formation of a potentially new N phase. However, the exact structure of this enhanced N phase and the detailed structural evolution during the transition remain elusive. which is the second goal of this proposal.
