Human skin swab samples were collected from Japanese healthy volunteers and patients with atopic dermatitis (AD). Swab samples were also collected from neck skin of SPF Tmem79-/- AD model mice and Tmem79-/- mice colonized with complex AD microbiota. The 16S rRNA gene hypervariable V1-V2 regions were PCR-amplified using universal primers (a barcoded 27F and 354R) and, multiplexed amplicon pyrosequencing was carried out using MiSeq (illumina).
