In Togo, it is always believed that malaria is transmitted by P. falciparum, and, severe and complicated malarias which are known to be the two major contributors to overall malaria mortality, are frequent in Togo (Gbadoé, 2006; and Eliades, 2006). However, it is known that humoral immunity builds up gradually among those who are repeatedly infected (exposed) to acquire 'protective' clinical immunity. The main objective of the study is to determine the diversity of Plasmodium species and relate this to natural immune responses to malaria infections in Togo subjects naturally exposed to malaria.
