To compare collagen crimping behavior of our engineered ring-shape tissue constructs to native tissue, we obtained porcine patellar tendon and performed multiphoton SHG microscopy to obtain 3D information on the collagen crimp of mature native tendons. As expected, native tissues exhibited highly ordered crimping behavior with qualitative increases in wavelength and amplitude compared to engineered tissue constructs.
