Future oceanography projections of the Canadian Arctic and Subarctic

The primary objective of this project is to examine changes in the physical oceanography and sea-ice of the coastal ocean across the Arctic and in coastal Nunatsiavut. To achieve this, the project downscale projections of the future oceanography of the Arctic Ocean and the northwest Atlantic Ocean, using a hierarchy of numerical ocean models. The geographic scope of the project includes the entire Arctic and northwest Atlantic ocean regions with a further regional focus on the coastal waters of Nunatsiavut. Model output will be interpreted alongside community knowledge of past changes in sea-ice use. All project components will be used to inform local rightsholders of projected future changes in the marine environment, contribute to marine management plans (e.g. Nunatsiavut Governments Imappivut Marine Plan), and contribute to climate change adaptation strategies.
