The disruption of gut microbial diversity and composition in mild cognitive impairment

In the recent years, gut microbes have been found to affect human brain function and behavior by different physical and chemical connections. Increasing evidence demonstrates that the alteration of gut microbial community may be implicated in the development of AD dementia. Since the pathological changes of AD dementia occur decades before the clinical expression of the disease, early detection of individuals with mild cognitive impairment is of great importance. The aim of this study was to investigate the differences of gut microbial community between patients with mild cognitive impairment and their healthy counterparts.
