This study aimed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of Madecassic acid(MA) on the composition and function of rumen microbial communities in ruminants. Using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and metagenomic sequencing, we analyzed microbial diversity and taxonomic differences, with a particular focus on changes in the abundance of methanogenic archaea. Functional gene analysis revealed that MA significantly suppressed the expression of key enzymes involved in the methanogenic pathway. Our findings demonstrate that MA supplementation reduces ruminal methane emissions by inhibiting methanogens and modulating microbial community structure and metabolic activity. This study provides novel insights into the application of MA as a methane mitigation strategy and offers a scientific foundation for developing sustainable livestock production practices.
