Dataset for: Georeferencing for soil type classification in the community of Picotani, Peru

For the collection of georeferences aimed at soil use classification, categories such as: Pajonal, Puna grassland, Canllares, Tolares, Totoral, Bofedal, forest plantations, degraded soils and rocks, bare soil, and others (e.g., water bodies, croplands, or pastures) were considered for the community of Picotani, Puno. As a first step, the presence of predominant and homogeneous land-use categories was identified through field surveys in the community, prioritizing high-Andean soils and vegetation cover in vicuña management sectors. As a second step, homogeneous areas of land use were delineated using a data collection application, where geographic coordinates were recorded by walking the perimeter of each homogeneous area. In the third step, each georeference record was coded in SURVEY123 and the completed forms were submitted. Finally, the data were standardized by identifying polygons of homogeneous areas along with their respective vertices.
