VPRS 12706 Alphabetical Index to Crown Grants for Special Purposes

The cards in this series give details of land granted to trustees for special purposes, land transferred to the Commonwealth Government for their purposes and grants for special purposes involving exchanges of land. For permanent reserves, grants were able to be made, in trust, for public purposes such as churches and associated schools and facilities, municipal buildings and facilities such as abattoirs and markets, for recreational uses such as cricket grounds and racecourses and for such uses as cemeteries and these are included in this series.Details given on each card are what the land was granted for and to whom. A consecutive number is also given for most grants as originally allocated from VPRS 14146 Register of Grants for Special Purposes (Grants Without Purchase). Those involving transfer of land to the Commonwealth also include details of the consideration (amount of money paid). Information usually recorded on all cards include details of the area of the land and the town, parish and/or county in which it was located are given and the correspondence number. Correspondence numbers are the file numbers allocated prior to the grant of the land. For land transferred to the Commonwealth, the Transferred property (TP number) may also be given. Further details of these transferred properties may be able to be found in VPRS 13944 Property Files, Commonwealth - State Transfers. Further details given are the date of the grant and where a copy of the grant might be able to be obtained. Reference here is given to VPRS 14148 Special deeds Book or for railway grants, VPRS 14149 Special Deeds Books, Railway Grants. There may also be a stamp giving details of the forwarding of the grant to the Titles Office.There is a great deal of uncertainty about the date at which these cards commenced to be prepared and used.
