We studied the influence of domestication on the plant microbiome. We hypothesized that directed selection (enforced by the domesticator) on the plants will result in more stochastically assembled microbiomes and that the impact of plant genotypes on microbiome assembly will be further diluted with increased soil management regimes. To test these hypotheses we used tomato as the model with modern and wild genotypes and grew them in soils from 7 geographical locations and with different management styles. We used 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing approach (V34 region) to address changes in the microbiomes of the rhizosphere and the endosphere.
