How a second language and its future time reference impacts intertemporal decision: A holistic perspective

The data and materials are related to the paper "How a second language and its future time reference impacts intertemporal decision: A holistic perspective" published in Bilingualism: Language and Cognition.In three between-group experiments, Chinese first-language speakers made intertemporal decisions using either Chinese (L1) or English (L2). Two potential mediators, namely future-orientation and subjective future perception, were also measured. Across these three studies (N = 1022) and an internal meta-analysis, we found that using a strong-FTR L2 did not change participants’ intertemporal preferences but did reduce their future orientation.This dataset contains all the questionnaire materials we used in this study, raw data, and R code to replicate these results.
