Ecology Lab3: Bird Sightings Along Belt Transect

This data set shows species of bird that were sighted along 25m belt transects; five belt transects conducted in a grassland and five belt transects conducted in a neighbouring woodlot. Binoculars and a bird identification guide were utilized to aid in bird identification. Distance from oneself and the sighted bird was estimated by eye and time spent walking along the belt transect was limited to 5-10 minutes. Wind was also recorded at the time of sighting a bird according to the Beaufort Wind Scale. Any unidentifiable birds were recorded as 'unidentified' due to low visibility from canopy cover or from the fast-flying nature of the bird.
